About the DepartmentThe Investment Services Supervision Function is responsible for the authorisation and supervision of investment services licence holders and recognised persons, particularly investment firms, asset managers and collective investment schemes. Through its supervision, the function assesses compliance with prudential requirements stemming from European Directives and local legislation. It also examines the adequacy of systems and controls, governance arrangements, and risk management within licensed or notified entities under its remit. To support its supervisory work, the function actively participates in European Commission and European Supervisory Authorities’ committees and working groups, contributing to the development of policy and legislation within its scope.About the RoleAs a Junior Analyst within the Investment Services Supervision you will be expected to carry out the following tasks:
  • Conducting desk-based reviews to determine whether licence holders are compliant with local primary and secondary legislation as well as regulations relating to investment services as updated from time to time, including financial documentation submitted to the MFSA on a periodic basis;
  • Undertaking assessments of licence holders through the compilation of high standard reports;
  • Acting as a contact point with licence holders, corresponding directly with them, reporting findings and resolving issues as they arise;
  • Using judgement to identify high risk cases and prioritising accordingly, escalating issues when necessary to senior management;
  • Assist the Team in the compilation of reports in relation to risk models;
  • Assist the Team in the implementation of EBA and ESMA Guidelines related to Investment Firms;
  • Participating in onsite compliance interactions and supervisory meetings, ensuring that they are delivered with the required regulatory standards while interfacing with licence holders on an ongoing basis; and
  • Undertaking other supervisory tasks or projects as delegated by line management.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head and/or as may be required by the MFSA from time to time based on the exigencies of the Authority.
About youWe are looking for candidates with solid academic background in Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Economics, Public Policy, Statistics or in another related background. Experience related to investment firms will be considered as an asset for this role.The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least five (5) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.Skills and competencies:
  • Ability to multitask and work on own initiative with minimal supervision;
  • Self-motivated team player, able to adopt various roles within a team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver under pressure;
  • Highly IT literate; and
  • Sound analytical and judgment skills, with the ability to compile reports to a high standard.
