Join us in driving Excellence, empowering People, and enhancing Communication to create a thriving and impactful workplace.About the roleWe are seeking a caring, reliable, and experienced Horse Carer to support our Therapeutic Horseback Riding (THR) team in delivering therapeutic equine-assisted activities for children and young adults with autism and profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). The role includes daily horse care and stable management, preparing horses and equipment for therapy sessions, and assisting during sessions to ensure a safe, calm, and structured environment for both participants and horses. The ideal candidate will be confident in handling horses, patient and emotionally aware, and able to remain composed in sensitive situations, with a genuine passion for animal welfare and making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.What you'll be doing
  • Preparing horses and equipment for therapy sessions.
  • Assisting the Equine Therapist during sessions, including leading horses when required.
  • Supporting the safe mounting and dismounting of participants.
  • Maintaining a calm, reassuring presence for children and young adults during sessions.
  • Adhering strictly to safety protocols and individual care plans.
  • Daily care of therapy horses, including feeding, grooming, mucking out, and general stable management.
  • Monitoring horse health and well-being and reporting concerns promptly.
  • Assisting with basic tack maintenance and yard cleanliness.
  • Supporting turnout, exercise routines, and handling of horses.
  • Working respectfully and sensitively with vulnerable children and young adults.
  • Following all safeguarding, health & safety, and NGO policies.
  • Communicating clearly with therapists, staff, volunteers, and carers.
  • Proven experience handling horses confidently and safely.
  • Calm, patient, and compassionate nature.
  • Reliability and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good physical fitness for stable and outdoor work.
  • Willingness to undergo safeguarding checks (e.g. police conduct/background check).
What we're looking forPrevious experience in equine-assisted therapy or similar settings.Experience working with individuals with autism, PMLD, or additional needs.Basic equine health or stable management qualifications.First aid training (human or equine).Prior to being recruited and throughout the duration of employment, the selected candidates need to satisfy the requirements of the Protection of Minors Act (POMA) together with those of immunization.Why work with Inspire?At Inspire, we prioritise the mental health and well-being of our employees.
