- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and observations to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe work practices.
- Ensure all workers, subcontractors, and visitors comply with safety rules, procedures, and the Project Health & Safety Plan.
- Assist in enforcing site access control measures and permit-to-work systems.
- Promptly report safety observations, incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions to the Health & Safety Specialist - Infrastructure Safety.
- Facilitate and support toolbox talks, site inductions, and safety briefings.
- Monitor the correct use, condition, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment.
- Support incident and accident investigations by collecting facts, evidence, and assisting with root cause analysis.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date safety records, reports, and site documentation.
- Work closely with contractors, site management, and the safety team to resolve safety issues in a timely manner.
- Promote a positive safety culture through proactive engagement, communication, and visible safety leadership on site.
- Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, and response activities as required.
- Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with instructions and guidance provided by the Lead - Health & Safety Officer and the Health & Safety Specialist - Infrastructure Safety.
- Perform any other duties or related tasks as assigned by the Company from time to time.
- Ability to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Proficiency in creating, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures in accordance with industry standards and legal requirements.
- Experience in conducting safety training sessions and workshops for employees to increase awareness and compliance with safety protocols.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey safety information to employees, management, and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address safety challenges and recommend effective solutions.
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management, or a related field.
- Preferably hold, or be actively working toward, an academic qualification in Occupational Health and Safety that is certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) at Level 5 or higher.
- At least 2 years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in a similar industry or environment.
- First Aid/CPR Certification: Basic first aid and CPR certification is often required.
