About the DepartmentThe Investment Services Supervision Function is responsible for the authorisation and supervision of investment services licence holders and recognised persons, particularly investment firms, asset managers and collective investment schemes. Through its supervision, the function assesses compliance with prudential requirements stemming from European Directives and local legislation. It also examines the adequacy of systems and controls, governance arrangements, and risk management within licensed or notified entities under its remit. To support its supervisory work, the function actively participates in European Commission and European Supervisory Authorities’ committees and working groups, contributing to the development of policy and legislation within its scope.About the RoleAs an Analyst within the Investment Services Supervision you will be expected to carry out the following tasks:
  • Preparation of key investment services financial statistics to the function and external stakeholders
  • Deliver periodic reports and dashboards to supervisory teams based on supervisory returns
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of ISS data and returns.
  • Proactively challenge reported financial data to ensure proper reporting of regulatory returns
  • Assist management and supervisory teams with periodic ESMA / EBA questionnaires
  • Assist with logging of regulatory returns to ensure that they are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Drive continuous improvement in internal logs and underlying data integrity in partnership with other teams within the function
  • Identify, quantify, and track number of authorisations, withdrawals, surrenders and supervisory interactions
  • Provide timely, detailed, and accurate management information dashboards and reports
  • Assist with the updating of ISS Returns, including the Annual Fund Return, the Fund Manager Return, and the MIFID Return
  • Keep abreast of ESMA and EBA updates to reporting templates, lead internal projects to ensure internal systems cater for the latest updates, and duly inform the industry as necessary
  • Assist the function with any other projects as may be delegated by management
  • Assist with quarterly Investment Firms SREP score and Investment Funds risk models
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head and/or as may be required by the MFSA from time to time based on the exigencies of the Authority.
About youWe are looking for candidates with solid academic background in financial services, accounting, economics, or in another related area which is considered relevant to the function and duties attached to this post.The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.You will also possess a minimum of three (3) years working experience in the area related to the role. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred.If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least seven (7) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.Skills and competencies:
  • Deep financial modelling: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with a proven ability to build and manipulate large-scale, driver-based financial models;
  • Financial ratios expertise: Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial ratios, and capital requirements;
  • Data proficiency: Experience with databases and business intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., Power BI and Tableau) for extracting and visualising data; and
  • Financial acumen: Clear understanding of how investment services firms operate, including passporting and the authorisation process.
