
Head of Legal & Risk (Locally Warranted Lawyer)

- A core part of the role is managing legal affairs. You will ensure compliance with statutory and policy requirements, provide high-quality legal advice across multiple disciplines, and determine when to use internal or external counsel.
- You will draft, review, and negotiate contracts, balancing regulatory compliance with commercial needs, while also advising senior management on emerging legislation and handling disputes.
- Oversight of external lawyers, legal budgets, and a structured procurement process for legal services also falls within your remit.
- Risk management is another key responsibility. You will develop and maintain both the company's enterprise risk framework and its broader risk management policies.
- You will proactively identify, assess, and mitigate legal, insurance, operational, reputational, and compliance risks.
- You will maintain a central Risk Register and assurance framework, they monitor emerging risks, support remediation actions, and ensure effective auditing of company procedures to address weaknesses.
- In addition, the role carries responsibility for governance and compliance. You will ensure robust corporate governance practices, including board reporting, internal controls, and compliance monitoring.
- You will oversee the implementation of prudential regulations and maintain constructive relationships with regulators and industry bodies.
- A strong emphasis is placed on promoting a culture of compliance, ethics, and transparency throughout the organisation.
- You will have a degree in law and be locally warranted, thus can practice in court - A MUST
- Proven experience as a legal advisor, preferably in financial services or corporate environments, is essential.
- The ideal candidate also brings experience in risk management, knowledge of regulatory frameworks, and strong business acumen
- Leadership ability, high ethical standards, discretion in sensitive matters, and advanced communication and negotiation skills are key to success in this role.
