The FinTech Supervision function is responsible for the authorisation and supervision of entities operating under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and the Financial Institutions Act. The function also acts as the Authority's centre of expertise on digital finance and FinTech-related supervisory and policy matters. The function also works closely with internal stakeholders, national competent authorities, and European institutions to ensure consistent, effective, and forward-looking supervision in a rapidly evolving digital finance environment.About the Role As a Senior Analyst within the Authorisations team of the FinTech Supervision Function you will be expected to:
  • Serve as a senior contact point for prospective applicants and promoters; engaging in direct communication with these stakeholders, providing comprehensive updates, and promptly addressing any issues that may arise;
  • Assess applications for authorisation under the Financial Institution Act and Markets in Crypto-Assets Act;
  • Review and draft memoranda to be presented to the relevant decision-making bodies within the MFSA;
  • Managing team members, ensuring the appropriate distribution of work tasks and the achievement of the set KPIs for the individuals and for the team, and that processes are efficient and effective;
  • Engage in the formulation and implementation of authorisation procedures, actively proposing enhancements to streamline efficiency and elevate the standard of quality;
  • Lead initiatives in the authorisation workstream under the Financial Institutions Act and Markets in Crypto-Assets Act.
  • Liaise with the various Functions and Directorates of the Authority in the handling of the various projects and tasks, as well as other Governmental bodies and act as point of contact, when required;
  • Participate in local, EU, and international fora, including the relevant committees of the European Supervisory Authorities;
  • Act as a digital finance and FinTech champion within the MFSA.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head and/or as may be required by the MFSA from time to time based on the exigencies of the Authority.
About You We are looking for candidates with solid academic background which may be considered as relevant to this post. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.You will also possess a minimum of five (5) years working experience in the area related to the role. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred.If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least ten (10) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.Skills and competencies:
  • Knowledge of the Financial Institutions Act (Malta) and Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA)
  • FinTech and crypto-asset regulatory understanding
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills
  • Regulatory report writing and documentation
  • Team leadership and stakeholder communication
  • Project management and process improvement
