Group Chief Financial Officer - CFO
Salary: €60,000 to €85,000About Our Client

We are seeking a strategic Chief Financial Officer to lead the finance function of this diversified and fast-growing group. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and the board, the CFO will develop financial strategies to support sustainable growth, oversee financial operations across multiple subsidiaries and international branches, and provide high-level advice on investments, expansion and risk management. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a seasoned Financial Controller ready to step into their first CFO position, offering broad exposure to group-level leadership, strategic decision-making and board engagement within a complex, multi-sector environment.Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Formulate and implement long‑term financial strategies aligned with the group’s vision and growth plans. Develop budgets, forecasts and capital plans to support expansion into new markets and service lines.
  • Governance and Financial Reporting: Oversee all financial reporting, ensuring accurate consolidation of group results, compliance with IFRS and local regulations, and timely preparation of statutory accounts. Maintain robust internal controls and lead relationships with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
  • Team Leadership and Process Optimisation: Lead and mentor the finance team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement. Implement efficient systems and processes for budgeting, payroll, billing, procurement and cash‑flow management.
  • Strategic Advisory and Investor Relations: Provide clear financial analysis and advice to the executive team and board on investment opportunities, partnerships and risk management. Support fund‑raising initiatives and maintain relationships with banks, investors and other financial stakeholders.
  • Risk Management and Compliance: Manage the group’s risk framework, tax planning and treasury operations. Ensure compliance with Maltese, EU and international financial regulations. Optimise the capital structure, monitor liquidity and support due diligence for acquisitions and international expansion.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
  • Education: A degree in accounting, finance or a related field with professional accounting qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is essential. A master’s degree in finance or business administration is desirable.
  • Experience: 5 to 10 years of progressive finance experience, including several years in senior leadership roles within diversified or services-oriented organisations. Strong hands-on expertise in payroll management, ideally across multi-entity or multi-jurisdictional environments, is essential.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and presentation skills to translate complex financial information into clear recommendations for executives, investors and stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, build relationships with subsidiary leaders and influence decision-makers in a family-owned setting.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of financial reporting standards (IFRS), budgeting, forecasting, corporate finance, tax planning and ERP systems, combined with advanced payroll oversight and compliance expertise, and strong financial modelling and data analysis skills.
  • Organisation: Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and prioritise effectively in a multi-business environment.
  • Self-Motivated: High level of initiative, adaptability and drive to lead change and continuous improvement.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical and pragmatic approach to solving complex financial and operational challenges in a dynamic, multi-sector business.
