Ganado Advocates is seeking to recruit a Lawyer or Regulatory Advisor to join its expanding Fintech practice. This role forms part of the Firm's broader financial services offering and will be particularly suited to candidates seeking to build a career in regulatory advisory work at the intersection of financial services and technology.The successful candidate will work within a team advising a diverse client base including investment firms, fund managers, collective investment schemes, credit institutions, electronic money institutions, payment institutions and crypto asset service providers. A core focus of the role will be supporting clients on regulatory matters relating to digital operational resilience, ICT risk management, and outsourcing arrangements, including work under the EU's Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA).The RoleThe position offers exposure to a broad and sophisticated regulatory practice, involving advisory work across the full lifecycle of regulated entities, from initial structuring and licensing with the MFSA through to day to day compliance advisory, remediation projects, and corporate or regulatory restructuring.Working closely with Partners and senior members of the team, the successful candidate will be involved in various jobs, including:
  • advising clients on Maltese and EU financial services regulation applicable to investment firms, collective investment schemes, financial institutions, crypto-asset service providers, and other financial services operators;
  • assisting with the structuring of operational set-ups, and MFSA authorisation processes;
  • supporting clients on ongoing regulatory compliance matters, including the preparation and review of internal policies and procedures, governance frameworks, and regulatory submissions;
  • advising on technology driven regulatory requirements, including ICT risk management, outsourcing, and third party arrangements; and
  • monitoring legal and regulatory developments in the fintech, reg tech and digital resilience space, and contributing to legal updates and internal knowledge initiatives.
The role is designed for individuals who wish to progressively develop a well rounded and specialised financial services regulatory practice within a collaborative and intellectually demanding environment.Requirements
  • 2 - 3 years' working experience in financial services legal or regulatory advisory work;
  • a law degree; qualification as a Maltese lawyer would be considered an asset, though experienced regulatory advisors are equally encouraged to apply;
  • prior experience advising on DORA and/or ICT related regulatory frameworks would be considered an asset, however is not mandatory;
  • a solid understanding of EU financial services regulation and familiarity with regulatory interaction, particularly with the Malta Financial Services Authority;
  • strong drafting, analytical and organisational skills, with a careful and methodical approach to regulatory work;
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and
  • excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of Maltese would be considered an asset.
