Role purpose:The material handler manages the movement of materials required in all manufacturing business units, receiving deliveries into the warehouse, filling orders given to him by the different departments, and handling confidential information or finished goods. It is the material handler’s responsibility to ensure the stable flow of materials from incoming to manufacturing and export.Key responsibilities:
  • Checking and unloading /loading deliveries safely in the correct defined areas
  • Receiving security material deliveries in a safe and controlled manner
  • Prepare raw materials in accordance with production schedule requirements
  • Performing ‘cyclic counts’ and routine stock checks closing loop with data input on financial related reports.
  • Proficient use of inventory management software to support in real time data
  • Manage necessary documentation for the transportation of goods.
  • Assisting with input onto the inventory management system.
  • Work within a systemic delivery schedule ‘Milk Run’ to allow flow of material in specific intervals within all manufacturing processes throughout the business units
  • Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, using appropriate hand tools.
  • Plate management in line with upgrades within the Currency systems.
  • Maintaining the storage area/s in a safe, clean and tidy condition, including the upkeep of the housekeeping of the staging area and loading bays.
  • Equipment autonomous maintenance in line with the site TPM programme.
  • Storing and recording of packed material for shipment.
  • Make sure all equipment is in good working order / condition and adhere to all safety standard requirements
  • Make sure to park equipment in appropriate locations and keep units charged (where required) for immediate use.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:Essential
  • O level standard of education, Maths & English would be preferred.
  • ECDL
  • Knowledge on safety practices
  • Previous store keeping experience
  • Forklift Truck License
  • Experience in the use of software related to inventory management
Competencies
  • Functional Knowledge - Basic education in English and maths and computer literate in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word. Basic understanding of supplier relationships.
  • Business Expertise - Understanding of how own role contributes to the business in fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Problem-solving - Limited problem-solving requirement.
  • Nature of Impact - Direct impact through the accuracy and quality of the tasks carried out
  • Teamwork - Be a player in team which needs to work like clockwork to move things in a lean way across the various factory areas
  • Area of Impact - Impacting production processes if material not delivered on time and in full or correctly
  • Interpersonal skills - Requires standard skills to communicate routine information internally and with suppliers
