- Monitor networks, endpoints, and infrastructure for suspicious activity using available tooling (e.g. SIEM, XDR).
- Investigate and respond to security alerts and incidents, ensuring actions are documented and follow-ups are tracked.
- Operate and maintain core security tools, including firewalls, email filtering, endpoint protection, and threat detection systems.
- Perform regular vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts with relevant stakeholders.
- Implement and maintain security controls such as access management, encryption, and patching.
- Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security trends, and assess relevance to the business.
- Contribute to internal security awareness, providing guidance on good practices and hygiene across teams.
- Assist in maintaining and updating security policies, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Participate in and coordinate the on-call schedule for incident response, always ensuring adequate coverage.
- Translate security objectives into actionable work and support the execution of strategic initiatives.
- Track team performance against defined SLAs and KPIs; ensure consistent reporting on incidents, risks, and metrics.
- Act as a liaison between InfoSec and other departments to ensure alignment on security risks and mitigation activities.
- Mentor junior team members or cross-functional colleagues on key security concepts and workflows.
- Comfortable using AI tools to investigate, automate, or speed up everyday tasks.
- Proactive and improvement-focused, therefore doesn't wait for perfect conditions to fix what's broken.
- Communicates clearly, especially when explaining technical risk to non-technical people.
- Works well with others; security is a team sport here.
- Takes ownership and follows through without needing handholding.
- Stays calm when things get messy and knows how to prioritise.
