The Insurance and Pensions Supervision function is responsible for the prudential supervision of insurance companies, insurance intermediaries, retirement schemes, retirement funds and retirement service providers. The team employs professionals with a varied background and varied skills in the areas of insurance, pensions, accounting, legal, quantitative analysis, actuarial, compliance and other related areas.About the Role The Junior Analyst (Finance) will be expected to take up the below duties:
  • Coordinate and/or undertake duties of an analytical nature in relation to periodic financial data submitted by licence holders in line with their statutory obligations emanating from their operating licences;
  • Monitor the business performance of licence holders together with their level of compliance in line with applicable regulatory standards and financial obligations emanating from the Insurance and Pensions legal framework;
  • Identify potential risks in relation to operations and capital adequacy;
  • Identify any further action that might be necessary on the MFSA's part as a result of the surveillance process;
  • 'Ad hoc' assignments related to specific regulatory and supervisory issues related to capital adequacy and solvency that arise from time to time;
  • To report on the outcome of such assignments as may be appropriate and necessary;
  • Participate in on site compliance visits.
  • You will also be expected to undertake any other duties that may arise depending on the exigencies of Insurance & Pensions Supervision and the Authority.
About You We are looking for candidates with solid academic background which may be considered as relevant to this post. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications, but you have at least five (5) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.Skills and competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of financial analysis, regulatory reporting requirements, and the insurance and pensions supervisory framework, including capital adequacy and solvency principles.
  • Proven ability to analyse periodic financial data submitted by licence holders, support supervisory surveillance processes, identify potential financial and prudential risks, and assist in determining appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and methodical, with the ability to interpret financial information, monitor business performance against regulatory standards, and clearly report findings.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability, with strong organisational skills and the ability to carry out supervisory duties objectively and responsibly in line with the standards of the Malta Financial Services Authority.
