About the DepartmentThe FinTech Supervision function is responsible for the authorisation and supervision of entities operating under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and the Financial Institutions Act. The function also acts as the Authority’s centre of expertise on digital finance and FinTech-related supervisory and policy matters. The function also works closely with internal stakeholders, national competent authorities, and European institutions to ensure consistent, effective, and forward-looking supervision in a rapidly evolving digital finance environment.About the RoleAs an Analyst within the FinTech Supervision Function you will be expected to carry out the following tasks:
  • Serve as a contact point with licence holders, corresponding directly with these counterparties, reporting findings and resolving issues as they arise;
  • Engage in initiatives in the authorisation and supervisory workstreams under the Virtual Financial Assets Act and the Financial Institutions Act as well as other related ongoing work;
  • Participate in onsite compliance inspections and/or interviews, ensuring that they are delivered with the required regulatory standards while interfacing with licence holders on an ongoing basis;
  • Undertake assessments of licence holders covering regulatory and AML/FT compliance and ICT risk;
  • Engage and address any regulatory issues that may arise in the normal course of the supervised entities' business to ensure that the level of compliance with applicable regulatory standards is maintained;
  • Liaise with the various Functions and Directorates of the Authority in the handling of the various projects and tasks, as well as other Governmental bodies and act as point of contact, when required;
  • Participate in local, EU, and international fora, including the relevant committees of the European Supervisory Authorities;
  • Undertake any other supervisory tasks or projects as delegated by line management; and
  • Act as a digital finance and FinTech champion within the MFSA
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head and/or as may be required by the MFSA from time to time based on the exigencies of the Authority
About youWe are looking for candidates with solid academic background which may be considered as relevant to this post. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.You will also possess a minimum of three (3) years working experience in the area related to the role. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred. Experience or background knowledge related to financial institutions and/or virtual financial assets will be considered as an asset for this role.If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least seven (7) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of financial services regulation, including VFA, FIA, AML/CFT, and ICT risk frameworks.
  • Proven ability to conduct supervisory assessments and compliance inspections of regulated entities.
  • Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with sound regulatory judgment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
