Job PurposeTo support Workshops Manager in the day-to-day running of the tower crane , trucks and vehicles maintenance division. The role ensures that maintenance activities are properly scheduled, documented, and executed efficiently. The assistant workshops manager acts as a link between the mechanical and electrical teams, stores, transport, and management to maintain high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.Key Responsibilities:Operational Coordination-Assist the Workshops Manager in planning and organizing maintenance activities for cranes and other machinery-Prepare and monitor daily and weekly work schedules-Track progress of maintenance jobs to ensure timely completion-Ensure that the correct work orders and maintenance checklists are completed for each crane.-Coordinate with logistics for movement of crane components within the yard or for delivery to job sites-Schedule Engineer visits for certification of various yard equipmentTechnical & Quality Oversight-Ensure that inspection procedures (e.g., bearing replacement, wire rope and gearbox checks, slewing ring inspections, limit switch testing, and brake servicing) are properly followed.-Conduct spot checks to verify quality of maintenance and cleanliness of work areas.-Report non-conformities, damages, or recurring faults to the Yard Manager.Inventory & Documentation-Confirm records of maintenance activities, parts usage, and completed service reports are being completed.-Assist with requisition of spare parts, consumables, and tools.-Update maintenance logs, service reports, and crane condition records in coordination with the Yard Manager.Health, Safety & Environment-Enforce safe work practices within the workshop and yard areas.-Ensure that PPE is properly used and that maintenance areas are kept organized.-Participate in toolbox talks and report any incidents or near-misses.Communication & Administration-Liaise between workshop technicians, crane operators, and office management.-Participate in meetings with Workshops Manager / Logistics team to schedule servicing according to priority.-Act as the communication link between the workshop, stores, logistics, and administration to ensure timely exchange of informationQualifications & Skills-Technical background (mechanical or electrical engineering diploma preferred).-Experience in plant, crane, or heavy equipment maintenance operations will be considered as an asset-Strong organizational and communication skills.-Proficiency in using maintenance logs, spreadsheets, or ERP systems.-Knowledge of workshop safety procedures and lifting equipment standards.-Ability to multitask and coordinate across different trades.Reporting Structure-Reports to: Workshops Manager-Supervises (indirectly): Mechanical & Electrical Technicians, Welders, Painters-Liaises with: Logistics, Stores, Project / Site CoordinatorsSummaryThis role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in equipment maintenance who can coordinate operations without necessarily performing technical repairs themselves.
