The RoleThe FIAU is seeking a motivated professional to support its National Coordination Team within the Supervision Section.Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the National Coordination Team Manager in implementing the strategic direction of the Supervision Section in relation to national coordination activities, ensuring the effective execution of the FIAU's supervisory functions.
  • Support the National Coordination Team's operations ensuring alignment with the FIAU's supervisory strategy, internal policies, and established working practices and standards, while promoting efficiency of operations and use of resources.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of systems and controls to monitor the Team's day-to-day operations and deliverables, including by reviewing the quality and timeliness of coordination deliverables, submissions and other documents compiled by the team.
  • Coordinate and contribute to work related to the implementation of AMLD/AMLR requirements and/or other EU-level developments impacting the FIAU's supervisory remit, including planning, internal coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support coordination and cooperation with AMLA in relation to joint supervisory inspections and other joint supervisory activities, including the assistance with the coordination of planning, information requests/exchanges, participation arrangements, and follow-up actions.
  • Coordinate and support the FIAU's contributions to evaluations, assessments, and follow-up processes carried out by local and international bodies, such as the Egmont Group, MONEYVAL, ESMA, and FATF, amongst others, through the compilation and quality review of questionnaires, submissions and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure effective internal coordination across Supervision teams and other FIAU Sections on national and EU coordination deliverables, including the timely collation of data, inputs and evidence, and the tracking of actions arising from external requests and evaluations.
  • Support the coordination of all matters relating to the National Coordination Committee for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism (NCC), including contributing to the National Risk Assessment and related national initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to the team in the delivery of coordination workstreams, including monitoring of deadlines, prioritising tasks and escalating issues where necessary.
  • Liaise and cooperate with various competent authorities including the Malta Financial Services Authority/ Malta Gaming Authority/ Sanctions Monitoring Board/ NCC/ Malta Police and other stakeholders as may be required.
  • Represent the FIAU at national and international meetings, fora and workshops relevant to the team's remit.
  • Provide support during FIAU ad hoc projects, including projects that require cross-sectional coordination and cooperation.
  • Provide training and guidance on matters relating to national and EU coordination activities, as may be required, and contribute to the development and updating of relevant internal procedures and working practices.
  • Provide periodic updates to the Senior Managers /Head of Supervision /AML /CFT Committee / the Board regarding the progress of all ongoing projects within the Team's remit.
  • Fulfil any other duties delegated by the Manager, Senior Managers, and / or Head of Supervision.
Requirements
  • An MQF Level 6 qualification in law, audit, accounting, economics, financial services, banking, or in any other subject, and at least four years work experience relevant to this post; OR an MQF Level 5 qualification in audit, accounting, economics, financial services, banking, law or in any other subject, and at least five years work experience relevant to this post.
  • Applicants should be highly proficient in the laws that govern the prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism in Malta and the international standards and EU legislation.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage escalations, and support strategic decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and high-quality reports.
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills.
  • Experience in areas related to policy/quality assurance/audit/project management constitute an asset to the role.
