- Manage a diverse portfolio of corporate and individual clients, acting as their primary contact.
- Review and sign-off income tax returns and related filings, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
- Advise on Maltese tax regimes (tax payment & refund mechanism, fiscal unity, capital gains, notional interest deduction, double taxation relief incl. FRFTC) and cross-border considerations.
- Support clients on tax audits, investigations, rulings, and correspondence with authorities.
- Set technical standards, review complex computations, and resolve review points.
- Keep the team current on changes in local and international tax (ATAD, OECD treaties, Interest & Royalties Directive, Parent-Subsidiary Directive) and translate them into practical client advice.
- Uphold risk, quality, and file-documentation standards (checklists, workpapers, version control).
- Lead, coach, and develop a small team: workload planning, 1:1s, technical training, performance reviews, and progression plans.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and client care.
- Own WIP, billing, and fee recovery for your portfolio.
- Streamline processes and templates; champion smarter use of tools (CFR online services, tax software, advanced Excel/Google Sheets).
- Monitor and report on KPIs (on-time filing %, first-time-right rate, turnaround time, client satisfaction, recovery).
- Spot opportunities within your portfolio and scope follow-on work responsibly.
- Partner with marketing on practical thought leadership (short client alerts, webinars/seminars) and contribute to proposals when needed.
- Fully qualified: Masters in Accountancy (University of Malta) or ACCA (or equivalent).
- Experience: 3+ years in tax with demonstrable responsibility for a client portfolio; prior team guidance/mentoring experience.
- Technical depth in Maltese income tax, including the refund mechanism, fiscal unity, capital gains, NID, and double taxation relief; sound grasp of the international landscape (ATAD, OECD treaties, directives noted above).
- Leadership: proven capability to coach juniors, manage workloads, and maintain high standards under deadlines.
- Commerciality & organisation: excellent planning, attention to detail, and fee/WIP discipline; able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision.
- Communication: excellent written and spoken English; confident with clients and authorities.
- Membership of MIA and/or additional tax credentials (e.g., ADIT/CTA).
- Experience preparing/defending positions in tax audits and complex restructuring transactions.
- Process improvement mindset (automation, templates, dashboards).
- Lead your own portfolio and shape how the tax team delivers.
- Structured CPD and technical training; exposure to complex, cross-border work.
- Clear path to further leadership responsibilities as the practice grows.
