The Junior Accountant will play a key role within the finance function, supporting day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring financial records are maintained accurately and in a timely manner. Working closely with senior finance personnel, the role involves a strong focus on supplier processes, reconciliations, month-end activities, and system support, contributing to the smooth running of the department.Key Responsibilities
  • Finance Operations Support: Assist with the daily accounting workflow, ensuring transactions are recorded correctly and financial processes run efficiently.
  • Supplier Account Management: Act as a key point of contact for supplier-related queries, resolving discrepancies such as pricing, quantities, VAT issues, and outstanding balances.
  • Invoice Workflow Monitoring: Oversee the movement and processing of supplier invoices to ensure timely handling and to avoid delays or operational bottlenecks.
  • Month-End and Reconciliations: Carry out supplier statement reconciliations, post accruals and prepayments, and support inter-company balance checks to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Systems and Management Support: Provide advanced support on core accounting systems, assist in resolving technical issues, and contribute to the preparation of monthly management accounts alongside the Accountant.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
  • Education: Professional accounting qualification or near completion of ACCA (or equivalent).
  • Experience: Previous experience within a finance or accounting environment, ideally involving supplier accounts, reconciliations, and month-end procedures.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building skills with the confidence to engage and resolve issues professionally.
  • Technical Skills: Solid understanding of accounting systems and advanced Excel capabilities, with the ability to navigate financial software efficiently.
  • Organisation: Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accuracy under pressure, and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Self-Motivated: Proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to take ownership of tasks and follow through independently.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical mindset with the ability to investigate discrepancies and implement effective resolutions.
